The "Migdal-Or" initiative aims to create safe and supportive spaces at social events, parties, and festivals where it’s very likely that people will face difficult and challenging emotional experiences. The need for a supportive shoulder in this environment has increased after the trauma of October 7th and the war that followed the massacre. We ourselves are reserve soldiers - we hear and are aware of the difficulties that arise at such events.

Our aim is to establish a sheltered, calm and accepting environment where everyone can find accompaniment and support in moments of need - and perhaps even emerge stronger.

About Avidan

"Migdal-Or" was founded in memory of Avidan Turgeman, who was murdered at the Nova party in Reim on October 7th.

Avidan was murdered after coming to help friends set up the decorations and stage and staying with them to celebrate.

Avidan was a man of light and giving, was sensitive to the people around him, took care to support them and was attentive to their hearts.

We, the family and friends, chose to commemorate him in a way that connects as many aspects as possible around what he loved and the gifts he brought to the world. Avidan was sensitive, supportive, caring, and loved to celebrate life. Therefore, we established the "Migdal-Or" initiative which connects all these aspects.

The parties, the commotion, and the music can bring up unprocessed emotions and pain. We believe that every person deserves accompaniment and support in difficult moments. The responsibility and caring that characterized Avidan led us to take up the gauntlet and not leave those people to cope alone.

How does the initiative work?

We arrive at the party with a team of volunteers, kind and sensitive people who have undergone appropriate training to support and accompany people in crisis situations. Our mobile unit is fully equipped to create a safe space and provide support wherever we're needed.

The support method we operate on is the "Zendo Project" model. The model was developed by the MAPS organization to accompany people in crisis situations at festivals and parties and to provide them with a safe, protected, and supportive environment.

The support method we operate on is the "Zendo Project" model. The model was developed by the MAPS organization to accompany people in crisis situations at festivals and parties and to provide them with a safe, protected, and supportive environment.

The method focuses on 4 main principles

2.Sit, Don’t Guide:

The role of the companion is simply to be there - without guidance, without judgment, and without pressure. With a quiet and containing presence, we give the person the space to go through their experience at their own pace, while conveying a clear message of acceptance and caring.

1.Create a Safe Space:

The basis of the whole process is a calm and quiet environment, which provides a sense of security and enables a person to deal with their emotions in a relaxed manner. This space, far from the commotion of the party and the crowd, creates a sense of security and enables deep emotional support.

4.Trust the Process:

We recognize that every experience, even if it is complex, is temporary and has the potential to lead to growth and insights. By giving time, patience, and support, we allow the person to go through the process with the belief that they will find the strength and meaning they need.

3.Talk Through, Don’t Talk Down:

The support is based on deep listening and eye-level conversation. Instead of controlling or trying to change the experience, we have a validating conversation that allows the person to share their feelings and explore their emotions in a safe and understanding environment.
